There are a lot of us who have issues with the holidays when some family members are no longer present and I’m one of them. My sister Kathy was always the big Christmas person in our family and she’s no longer here to make it fun and exciting.

Sheila, wine and all kinds of fun stuff

Ilove my friend Sheila Mireles because she always keeps the wine I like stocked at Brookshire’s. The other day she texted me and said, “Guess how many cases of your favorite wine we got in today?” I made a few guesses, but I was wrong every time, so she finally told me it was 20 cases.

County Historical Commission honored

This Monday, during the regular meeting of the Milam County Commissioners Court, we were honored to present the Milam County Historical Commission (MCHC) with the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Historical Commission.

Thanksgiving Day brings hope that your day will be fulfilling as well as full-feeling. Every day should be a day of Thanksgiving. We give thanks to the Pilgrims who established this annual Day, giving all of us the gentle nudge we need to give thanks, and do we ever have so much to be thankful for!

Oversharing and un believable generosity

I’m writing this particular column because A.) I’m prone to overshare, and B.) I didn’t know any of this and I’m sure I’m not the only diabetic in Rockdale. When you’re diagnosed with diabetes you have to watch out for your eyes (and your feet) so you can’t just go to an optometrist anymore.
