May 7 election recap

The May 7 city and school board elections are coming up soon and here is a recap of all the races. ROCKDALE MAYOR—Incumbent Mayor John King is running for re-election against Brett Boren.

EARTH DAY ’22

EARTH DAY ’22—Rockdale Earth Day held a spring celebration at the library on Tuesday morning with lots of finger foods and drinks. Mayor John King (R) proclaimed Friday, April 22, as Earth Day in Rockdale on April 11, and Rockdale Earth Day Chairman David Melton accepted the proclamation.

Post Oak Savannah GCD board approves $1,013,324 in grants

At its April 12 board meeting the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) Board of Directors approved over one million dollars in grants for six local water utilities.

JOYFUL FUN—The Easter Egg Hunt and carnival put on by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, RISD ACE Tigers After-School and Girl Scouts was an absolute knockout.

21st annual Dewberry Jam set for May 1st

Service sorority Alpha Tau Delta will hold the 21st annual Dewberry Jam on Sunday, May 1 at Veteran’s Memorial Park. There will be a Fiesta 5K and a kid’s 1K on the streets around the park. For the kid’s 1K there will be age divisions of five and under, ages 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12.

RVFD fundraiser Saturday at KC Hall

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department will hold their 31st annual Giveaway Fundraiser on Saturday at 5 p.m. at KC Hall. The meal will start at 5:30 p.m. with a dance and auction to follow.

County gets double dose of ‘Jungle Book’

Readers will be able to get a double dose of “The Jungle Book” this weekend. In addition to Friday night’s movie at The Kay, the Milam County Theater is also performing this play so you’ll be able to see live action as well.

PRAYER WALK

PRAYER WALK—An Easter prayer walk was held on Friday which ended at Tiger Field. Rev. Royal Johnson of Rising Star Baptist Church led the walk and also finished it with a prayer. He passed the microphone around and anyone who wanted to say a prayer was able to do so.

New Hope Baptist to hold Family/Friends Day on Sunday A Family and Friends Day Program at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. Speaker for the program will be Dr. Dennis Brooks of New Jerusalem Church.
