Maintenance work continues on FM 2095

MILAM COUNTY – BNSF maintenance work continues at the at-grade crossing on FM 2095 near Cameron.  Traffic is being detoured around this area. This closure is anticipated to last through Monday while BNSF makes further repairs to the crossing. For more information, contact Bobby.Colwell@txdot.

Gun found at RHS Monday

On Monday at 12:59 p.m., the Rockdale Police Department was notified by Rockdale High School faculty that a firearm had been discovered in a High School student’s backpack after receiving an anonymous tip through the RISD “Quick tip” program.

RVFD fundraiser

The 31st annual Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department Giveaway Fundraiser on Saturday night provided a night of fun, food and dancing at the KC Hall. Mike Korenek, fundraising chair for the past 31 years, has decided to retire.

Phi Theta Kappa

Rockdale High School and Temple College students were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society at Temple College.

Day of service to make Rockdale beautiful

Rockdale Earth Day held a day of service on Earth Day, Friday, April 22. The day’s events got kicked off at the RHS gymnasium with breakfast tacos provided by the Rockdale Rotary Club.

City council hears two proposals

At a special meeting of the Rockdale City Council on Tuesday night, members heard presentations from two companies who put offers in for the property the city owns at 1166 West US 79. This is the property near Rockdale Intermediate School where the police station was originally going to be built.

FAMILY FUNFEST

FAMILY FUNFEST—Saturday’s Family Funfest sponsored by the Rockdale Police Department and Aware Central Texas was big success. Kids payed games and ate hot dogs and met and mingled with the officers. See page 3B for more photos.

Get it done

In Luke 9:57 - 62 Jesus talks to three men about following Him (the mark of a Christian). One guy says he needs to go live his life, and after his father passes away he will start to follow Jesus. Another says he needs to go home and get things in order and then he will start to follow Jesus.

The heart’s hunger can be satisfied

A minister at a conference was listening to a woman give the devotional. She was speaking in one foreign language, then another. “La madre que tengo hambre. La m’ere j’ai faim. Mutter, die ich hunger habe. La madre che ho fame.” Lastly, she interpreted in English, “Mommy, I’m hungry.
