SEVEN NEW COVID CASES THURSDAY

From County Judge Steve Young late Thursday night: Thursday we have seven new confirmed PCR tests and two new confirmed antigen tests in Milam County.  We were able to discharge six PCR cases from the active list and two antigen cases from the active list.

Blood drive set for Saturday at Milano VFD

An American Red Cross blood drive is slated for Saturday at the Milano Fire Station, according to event spokesperson Devin Love. The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 979-436-5723. Milano’s fire station is on US 79 just east of the railroad viaduct.

Free food program planned downtown

A Texas Dept. of Agriculture free meal program for Rockdale children and senior citizens will tentatively begin Oct. 5. The distribution site is expected to be 225 North Main and will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. The program is for Rockdale residents ages 3 to 18 and for citizens 55 and over.

Moving day

From 1895 to 2002 this iconic landmark building served as Rockdale’s City Hall, so there were lots of city records still inside.

Milam logs sixth death

It was the worst of times. It was the best of times. That sums up the past week—Wednesday morning to Wednesday morning—of COVID-19 reports in Milam County. The death of a Milam resident attributed to the virus was announced Friday night by County Judge Steve Young, the sixth overall.

Trustees approve $1.3363 tax rate

Rockdale Independent School District trustees voted to accept a tax rate of 1.3363 per $100 evaluation Monday night at a meeting on the high school campus. While the rate for this school year is higher than last year’s $1.

Arturo Villarreal Jr.’s career path did not lead him straight to where he is today. There were a few twists and turns along the way to his position as one of the assistant district attorneys for Milam County.
