Saving lives

The American Red Cross Blood Drive at Meadowbrook Baptist Church Friday exceeded its goal and collected 37 units, according to Tatiana Olivares, coordinator. She said those units have the potential to save 111 lives. Olivares expressed appreciation to Meadowbrook Baptist for use of its facilities.

Waiting for crisp, fall evenings

We made it to September, whew! With Labor Day next week, I am hoping for those crisp, fall evenings to approach quickly. As fall is getting closer, some may be getting ready to do a little closet cleaning.

BBQ chicken at KC Hall on Sept. 12 The Knights of Columbus will hold a drive through barbecue chicken dinner on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. until sold out at the KC Hall. The plates will be $10 and will have half a chicken, sides and a dessert.

Sherri and James Rasco have gone to Virginia to visit their daughter Erica and family. Remember that Founders Day activities have been canceled for this year. I’ll be so glad when everything gets back to “normal” (or whatever we called normal). School is now under way in Gause.

Now that school has started either at home or in person, how about some crockpot meals to save you a little time in the evening? I use my crockpot a lot in the fall and winter. It’s so nice to have something ready when you get home and don’t feel like cooking.

Denice Doss service set for Friday

A memorial service for Denice Doss, a tireless R o c k d a l e booster and community worker, who touched literally thousands of lives is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Meadow brook Baptist Church. Mrs. Doss died Tuesday. Mrs. Doss died Tuesday.

UNITED WAY AWARDS

The annual South Milam County United Way awards are traditionally presented during the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce awards banquet. This year the banquet was held online at a later date due to the COVID-19 situation.
