SEVEN NEW COVID-19 CASES

From County Judge Steve Young Monday night: We have seven new confirmed COVID-19 cases to report.  Some of these could be late weekend reports, but we are not sure.  We did discharge 23 active cases today, which brings us to 15 active cases.

BIG MILESTONE: NO NEW CASES TO REPORT THURSDAY

Finally, some good COVID-19 news. County Judge Steve Young said late Thursday night there were no new cases of the virus reported for Milam County during the past 24 hours. It's the first time that's happened since the early days of the pandemic.

MILAM LOGS FOURTH COVID-19 DEATH

  Milam County Judge Steve Young said late Wednesday the county's COVID-19 death total has increased from three to four but not because of any recent deaths.

Thorndale tanker tumble

THORNDALE—Thorndale stood at the brink of what might have been a major disaster before dawn Thursday as a tanker truck loaded with fuel skidded onto its side, then was struck by a pickup. The crash resulted in a massive cleanup and shut down US 79 for about 14 hours.

Playing in the ‘Big Leaks’

Rockdale has begun getting rid of its notorious “red water.” Yes we’ve heard that before, but this time is different. Pipe “sleuths” with SAMCO Leak Detection Services are already out and about within the city limits finding and logging leaks in Rockdale’s antiquated and failing water system.

Cases rising again after 3-week slide

After three much appreciated weeks of declining COVID-19 cases in Milam County, the numbers have headed back up. As of presstime Wednesday morning, 41 cases were reported for the week, according to County Judge Steve Young.

Hospital district’s tax rate to stay at 6.5 cents

The Rockdale Hospital District’s (RHD) tax rate will remain at 6.5 cents for another year. Karolyn Puccio, hospital board president, told The Reporter, that the board met on Friday and decided not to increase the tax rate.
