Health care future topic for March 5th An update on Project Moonshot, a new approach to rural care which may set up a pilot project in Rockdale, will be the topic of a meeting at 6 p.m. March 5 in the Kay Theatre.

Bizarre theft case involving elderly nets one arrest

Rockdale police filed theft charges against a Rockdale man Sunday after an investigation revealed a bizarre set of circumstances, according to Lt. Stephen Goodrich. Goodrich said an elderly woman was committed to a rest home by a relative.

There were several of those—standing ovations—Saturday evening in the KC Hall as the Rockdale Police Department and Rockdale Volunteer Fire Departments held their annual combined awards banquets. Both departments honored their members and numerous other awards were handed out. Also pages 1A and 6C.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Here is the Milam County Jail Log for Feb. 18-24. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

FIRE CALLS

Fire calls for South Milam County volunteer fire departments, dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station during the past week included the following: • 4:02 p.m. Feb. 18, Rockdale VFD responded to fire in 600 block of West Bell and discovered a chair on fire.

Melton benefit set for March 22

A benefit is planned March 22 for Milano resident Richard Melton and family as he battles gastric cancer. He is currently receiving treatment at MD Anderson in Houston and the event is being held to help with expenses during his battle to win this fight.

Gause Baptist Church had a very successful Valentine fundraiser for the youth. This will help pay the kids’ way to upcoming activities. Lots of good food and fellowship. On Monday, March 27, Gause School track team members will be in a meet at Rosebud-Lott. March 9-13 is Gause ISD spring break.

Corey Puente was named officer-of-the-year and Herbie Vaughan firefighter-of-the year as the Rockdale Police Department and Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department combined for their annual awards banquet Saturday evening at the KC Hall.

There were lots of daughters, lots of dads and lots of dancing Friday night at the KC Hall as the Rockdale Tigers Booster Club held its annual Father-Daughter Dance. About 320 persons attended and the event netted about $2,805, according to club spokesperson Denise Betchan. Reporter/Mike Brown
