Baptist church hosts movie night The movie “Let There Be Light” will be screened outdoors at the San Gabriel Baptist Church at 7 p.m., Friday, June 7. Admission is free. There will be food and entertainment before the movie begins at 263 County Road 421A, Thorndale.

They did it!

Rockdale, Milano and Thorndale seniors will graduate this week end. Rockdale and Milano will hold graduation exercises Friday, with Thorndale following Saturday. See photos of all the grads in this week’s special section. 

Memorial Day closings slated

QUICK LOOK Monday is Memorial Day and that’s a holiday for just about everyone. Classes will already have concluded by Monday in all South Milam school districts. Area financial institutions will close and there’s no mail delivery. The city library will be closed.

First, a ‘band aid’

It’s not the start of the major overhaul of Rock-dale’s “since forever” red water problems, but a project now wrapping up at the Mill Street Water Plant is targeted to help out in the short run.

Memorial Day: Ceremony, flags at Bridge Park

It’s always a red-white-and blue Memorial Day in Rockdale but the 2019 observance will have some extra patriotic color as the area observes wartime fallen American service personnel.

Chamber lists new board of directors

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce now has what is a substantially new board of directors. Executive Director Denise Brock has released the list, which contains the names of seven new directors named since the 2019 Chamber banquet in March. There’s also a change at the top.

New stadium hosting first set of grads

The new Tiger Stadium will host its first Rockdale High School graduation ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Former Rockdale pastor Rev. Ken Ansell will deliver the graduation address for RHS’s 102-candidate Class of 2019.

TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

—The 2018-19 school year is ending this week in the Rockdale ISD and the distirict has named its teachers of the year as follows: Glenda Walker, high school; Lisa Flores, intermediate; Kathryne Roddam, junior-high; and Dawn Byrd, elementary.

WAS THE FAIR EARLY?

—No, the 2019 Rockdale Fair will be held in October as always. But 400 to 500 cattle were on hand during the weekend as the Rockdale Fair Association hosted a Cattle Classic event. In addition to competition, two clinics were conducted and the weekend also included a dance.
