62nd Appelt Family Reunion set for June 7 The Appelt Family will be celebrating its 62nd reunion on Sunday, June 7, at Appelt’s Hill Hall in Hallettsville. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The reunion will provide a meal of stew, sausage and sides at noon along with cold drinks.

City to increase utility rates

City of Rockdale residents will soon notice changes to water and wastewater bills beginning this month. After several months of deliberation and considering every option available, city council approved an increase in utility rates.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church held their first May fest since 2020 on Saturday and the fundraiser was a big success for the organization. The day began with a mass after which the Communi ties in Concert Band played for the crowd.

Voters choose Flores, Keen, Janak, pass all propositions

Rockdale has a new city council member and a new (and one returning) RISD trustee. Nathan Flores won the eastside council spot 74 votes to John Lawhon’s 45 votes. Incumbent Place 6 trustee Janice Keen easily won her spot over Susan Pantaleon and Sharee Mitchell with 53,16% of the vote.

MARC Ride fundraiser on June 13th

The 25th annual MARC Ride will take place on June 13 at The Ranch. The ride is the largest fundraiser the center receives. In 24 years, the ride has raised $618,000. Ride registration begins at 9 a.m. and the first bikes will leave at 11 a.m. The fee is $20 per rider or $25 with a passenger.

I&GN Depot fetes 120th anniversary

Rockdale Historical Society and Three Ps Ice Cream will celebrate 120 years since the landmark I&GN passenger depot was built. Free cake and ice cream, generously sponsored by local, scratch made ice cream shop 3P’s Ice Cream will be served while supplies last.
