Three accidents reported in week

POLICE REPORT Rockdale police investigated three traffic accidents during the past week. Also during the week a 27-year-old Rockdale woman died in the city jail. Police said she hung herself and the Texas Rangers are investigating. (See story page 1A).

Fire Chief saves life, gets ‘reward’

Question: What do members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department do when they’re off duty. Answer: Members of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department are never off duty. Fire Chief Ward Rod-dam said last week a package arrived for him at the fire station bearing some special items.

FIRE CALLS

Fire calls dispatched through the Rockdale Police Department during the past week were listed as follows: • 10:09 a.m. Saturday, grass fire, 1200 block of County Road 314, Milano VFD. • 4:26 p.m. Saturday, grass fire County Road 316 at FM 908, Rockdale VFD. • 5:18 p.m.

Rockdale reports first triple-digit reading Sunday

After flirting with the triple-digit plateau for most of June, the mercury edged over it on the first day of July. The U. S. Weather Service thermometer read an even 100 at KRXT-FM on Sunday. It wasn’t exactly chilly in the month just past. Several highs of 99 were recorded.
