Guilty in ‘medicated’ sex assault

A jury deliberated less than an hour Thursday before returning a guilty verdict against a 53-year-old Rockdale man accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was medicated. Ricky Lee Murray will be sentenced next month.

2nd indictment for ex-Milam employee

CAMERON—A former employee of the Milam County Tax Office was indicted for the second time this year by a Milam County Grand Jury Thursday. Lydia Cervantez, 56, was indicted for aggravated perjury. In February, Cervantez was indicted for false name/ information, forgery of vehicle registration.

Reporter sports nabs first again at TPA

MONTGOMERY—For the second straight year, The Rockdale Reporter received first place in sports coverage at the 2018 Texas Press Association awards banquet Saturday. The TPA Better Newspaper Contest is a state-wide competition.

New water program meeting set Thursday

Rockdale’s Patterson Civic Center will be the site of the second of three meetings Thursday to introduce land owners to a new program the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District says will preserve and protect aquifers. Time is 6 to 9 p.m.

Deputy indicted, ex-captain sentenced

CAMERON—A Milam County Deputy Sheriff was indicted for criminally negligent homicide on Thursday. The next day a former jail captain drew probation and was ordered to pay $56,000 in a theft case.

Cameron site for fireworks on the 4th

Next Wednesday is the Fourth of July and it’s Cameron’s turn. The county seat will host the annual fireworks spectacular, which will come after an evening of activities at Wilson-Ledbetter Park on FM 1600 near Cameron’s southern city limits.

Milano native killed in Brazos ATV accident A 21-year-old Milano native died last Tuesday afternoon in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Brazos County. According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department, Blake Harless was killed about 3:30 p.m. along Millican Creek Trail near FM 2154.
