BUCKHOLTS—The Buckholts ISD has been decertified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), it was announced Friday.

The TEA stressed no official decision has been made on whether the school district will close.

Nancy Sandlin, BISD superintendent, said the district will not close this year, saying she came to the district in 2016 with the understanding she would have two years to reverse the downward trend.

Texas public schools cannot operate without being accredited by the state.

Between 2013 and 2017, Buckholts ISD had below acceptable accountability ratings in the annual TEA school “report card.”
