Alliance sets National Prayer Day Thursday at Meadowbrook BC
Rockdale Ministerial Alliance will sponsor two more events this year, according to Ken Ansell, president.
National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 3 at Murray Street Church of Christ, 1301 Murray, beginning at noon. Lunch will be served.
“We will pray for our nation, our community and our churches,” Rev. Ansell said. “Local pastors Dr. Dennis Brooks (New Jerusalem), Royal Johnson (Rising Star Baptist) and Matt Higginbotham (First Baptist) will offer the prayers. Pastors Adam Straznicky (St. John’s United Methodist), Gary Veit (Peace Lutheran) and Steve Ammons (Meadowbrook Baptist) will be reading Scripture.
Baccalaureate—A Baccalaureate service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, hosted by Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
“All RHS seniors and their families are invited to attend in cap and gown,” Ansell said. “Meadowbrook Baptist, the host church, will provide the music as well.”
Rev. Ansell, a former Tiger and RHS graduate, will provide the message with several students from the class of 2018 participating.
Baccalaureate service held at Springfield BC
There was a lot of 1976 in the 2018 Baccalaureate Service Sunday afternoon at Springfield Baptist Church.
Speaker was Kerry Locklin, a key member of the 1976 Tiger state championship football team.
He was introduced by Lew Simmonds, an assistant coach on that team. Offering closing remarks was Fred Johnson, head coach of the 1976 Tigers.
Others on the program were Elizabeth McQuitter, Pastor Terry Larkin, Sharice Boyd, Springfield Pastor Rev. S. L. Ross Sr. and Tiffany Commerford, principal of Rockdale High School.
Kefa Mitchell was mistress of ceremonies. Refreshments were served following the service.
Graduating seniors honored were Averyanna Kiamani Willis, Octavean Ronnie Messer, Sirvantaye Allen, Brajon Ayala, Sharice Boyd, Zavion Burgess, Ja’Qualyn Crawford, Dylan David, Elisha Johnson, Frances King, Alvin MItchell, Quintin Myles, Justin Nelson, Marvin Wyatt, Ta’Shon Chamblee, Torry Locklin and Treniecesia Ashley Mitchell.
Worshipers Conference Saturday at New Hope
The Women’s Ministry of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 327 E. Third Street in Rockdale, will present a “True Worshipers Conference” (John 4:23-24) at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, according to Deborah Crawford, spokesperson.
Guest speakers will be Minister Novotny Baez, Minister Raquel Smith and Prophetess Belinda Jackson, Crawford said.

Thorndale church sets BBQ chicken Sunday
THORNDALE—Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Thorn-dale will serve a barbecue chicken dinner on Sunday, May 6 at Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, according to Patricia Hawthorne, spokesperson.
