Rising Star BC to launch substance abuse program here Thursday at 7 p.m.
All are invited to attend a Substance Abuse program grand opening at Rising Star Baptist Church, 1055 Texas Street, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2. Lunch will be served.

Back-to-school sale set at Crossroads Church
Crossroads Bible Church will have a Back-to-School Clothes Closet Sale and Bake Sale on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m..
“Gently used clothing and shoes for children and adults will be available as well as some new items,” said Pastor David Kaufmann. “All proceeds will go to fund church projects.”

Forest Grove Christian Church is holding its annual revival at 7 p.m. this week through Friday, Aug. 3, according to Lance Walch, minister.

Youth fund-raiser Saturday at Allen AME
The youth of Allen AME Church, 216 E. Third Street, Rockdale, will hold a yard sale and barbecue sausage wrap sale fund-raiser Saturday, Aug. 4 beginning at 8 a.m. at the church.
“Come find a hidden treasure among the furniture, clothes, electronics, toys, dishes and more,” said Rev. Willie Phillips, senior pastor.
Anniversary—On Sunday, Aug. 12, Allen AME Church will holds its 143rd anniversary celebration at 11 a.m., he said. All are welcome.
VBS Sunday ahead for two local churches
VBS Sunday is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran church and at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church this Sunday.
Children who attended the two-church Vacation Bible School being held this week will perform at each church’s morning worship.

Presbyterians to hold ice cream social Aug. 19
Members of First Christian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue, will host their fourth annual outdoor ice cream social, open to all, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, Pastor David Pussman announced.
Summer schedule at First Presbyterian includes Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. with a coffee gathering held the hour before.
Weekly Bible Study is led by Rev. Pussman at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays.
Rockdale Christian Church donating school supplies
Rockdale Christian Church, 1406 Sager, will donate school supplies for 15 students who will be in kindergarten and first grade for the coming school year.
Minister Harry Stevenson said the supplies will include backpacks and needed supplies for enrollment as listed by the Rock-dale ISD administration.
“If you are in need of these items please call 512-446-2568 as soon as possible to reserve one for your child,” he said. “This is a first-come, first-serve basis and deadline will be 5 days before school starts.”
San Gabriel Baptist slates meal, movie for Friday
San Gabriel Baptist Church will host a meal and movie Friday evening.
A light supper at 7 p.m. will be followed by the recently released film “I Can Only Imagine,” starring Madeline Carroll, Dennis Quaid, Trace Adkins, Cloris Leachman and Jason Burkey.
It’s free and no offering will be taken.
