Calvary Baptist sends 32 youth to camp

Calvary Baptist Church, 1443 South FM 487, has sent 32 youth to church camp this summer, according to Pastor Garland Moffett. In addition, he said numerous family events have been held over the summer.

Many improvements at the church have been made and are ongoing. Recent additions include a new roof, painting, rock work, playscapes, outdoor lighting and landscaping.

“Further renovations are being planned,” Pastor Moffett said.

Allen AME to hold 143rd anniversary

Allen AME Church, 216 E. Third Street in Rockdale, will hold its 143rd anniversary celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, according to Rev. Willie Phillips, pastor.

“All are welcome to attend and help us with this special celebration,” he said.

Presbyterians to hold ice cream social Aug. 19

Members of First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa Avenue, will host their fourth annual outdoor ice cream social, open to all, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, Pastor David Pussman announced.

Summer schedule at First Presbyterian includes Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. with a coffee gathering held the hour before.

Weekly Bible Study is led by Rev. Pussman at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

Rockdale Christian Church donating school supplies

Rockdale Christian Church, 1406 Sager, will donate school supplies for 15 students who will be in kindergarten and first grade for the coming school year.

Minister Harry Stevenson said the supplies will include backpacks and needed supplies for enrollment as listed by the Rockdale ISD administration.

“If you are in need of these items please call 512-446-2568 as soon as possible to reserve one for your child,” he said. “This is a first-come, first-serve basis and deadline will be 5 days before school starts.”

Gause UMC to hold ‘Blessing of Backpacks’

GAUSE—Gause United Methodist Church will be recognizing and blessing area school children, their parents and school staff on Sunday, Aug. 12, during the worship service that begins at 9:30 a.m.

The community is invited to participate in this “Blessing of the Backpacks.” Kids are encouraged to bring their backpack or lunch pack, but may come with empty hands to receive their blessing, said Reba Fischer, spokesperson. FMI: 979-253-3303.

Shiloh Baptist sets Kids Fun Fest Sunday

First Shiloh Baptist Church, located at 100 County Road 481, Thrall, will hold a Sunday Fun Day on Aug. 12.

This “kids fun fest” will follow 11 a.m. worship and a luncheon and will feature outdoor games, inflatable play sets, water fun and Popsicles.

“Everyone is invited to attend in your play clothes and enjoy this family fun,” a spokesman said.

FOOD PANTRY—Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter. Donations may also be taken to 11 RCS-member churches.

THRIFT STORE—Rockdale Christian Services “Heavenly Treasures” thrift store, 233 North Main, serves the needy with gently used clothing and household items at prices from 25 cents to $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Donations to the thrift store are appreciated and should be left only during operating hours.
