Note-burning Sept. 23 at Meadowbrook Baptist

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will hold a note-burning event Sunday, Sept. 23 during a potluck luncheon following 11 a.m. morning worship, according to Pastor Steven Ammons.

“This marks our church as being completely debt-free,” he said.

Also this month at Meadow-brook:

• Sunday, Sept. 9, “Seek, Pray, Engage” outreach, 4 p.m., SNF Youth, 5-7 p.m. (movie).

• Sunday, Sept. 16, Men’s Bible study, 8 a.m.; Budget meeting, noon.

• Saturday, Sept. 22, annual distribution to the needy (clothing, toys, furniture, household items), fellowship hall.

• Sunday, Sept. 23, potluck meal and note-burning.

• Wednesday, Sept. 26, “See You at the Pole,” 7 a.m., youth gather at flag poles for prayer, all campuses.

• Sunday, Sept. 30, quarterly business meeting, 12:15 p.m.

New Bible study, MYF to begin at St. John’s

A new Bible study and the fall re-start of Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) are ahead at St. John’s United Methodist Church, located at Summit and Hillcrest in Rockdale.

Pastor John Seaton said the Bible study will start Monday, Sept. 10, beginning at 6 p.m. in the church’s Old Fellowship Hall.

“The study is called Invitation and is an overview focusing on understanding the whole story of the Bible rather than particular parts,” he said. “It is designed to help us become more familiar with the Bible so that when we open it up to read it we can better grasp what it is saying to us.”

MYF will begin Sunday, Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. “There will be a snack supper and lesson for youth in grades 6 through 12,” Pastor Seaton said. All interested area youth are invited.

RSBC to celebrate 111th anniversary

Rising Star Baptist Church, 1055 Texas Street, Rev. Royal Johnson, pastor, will celebrate its 111th anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 with the public invited.

“We look forward to seeing everyone including all former members, choir members, ministers, deacons, ushers and patrons,” Rev. Johnson said.

The RSBC reunion choir rehearsal will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, followed by brunch. The reunion choir will be featured Sunday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. worship and at the 3 p.m. church anniversary program.

Pastor Charles R. Terry and Greater New Birth Baptist Church congregation of Plano will be speaker and special guests, Rev. Johnson said.

TENNIS SHOE DRIVE—Rising Star Baptist will conduct a drive for new and gently used tennis shoes for students of the Rockdale ISD. Donations will be accepted after 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Sept. 26 through Oct. 31 at the church. FMI: 512-446-3242.

FOOD FOR KIDS—Rising Star will begin a “Food for Kids” meal at 5 p.m. each fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning Sept. 26. Anyone wishing to donate to this effort can call Rev. Johnson, 512-576-4483.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting at local church

Calvary Baptist Church, 1443 South FM 487, Rockdale, will be the site of Narcotics Anonymous meetings at 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays.

Students invited for ‘Muffin Mondays’

Murray Street Church of Christ is holding 7 a.m. “Muffins Mondays” where students are invited to spend time in fellowship and prayer before the school day begins, according to Jason Hollinger, minister. The church is located next to the high school.

He also reminds: At 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, youth worship (Evolve: Street Student Ministries). At 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Hollinger leads adult Bible study that covers 400 years between the Old and New Testaments.

Shiloh Baptist holding weekly rummage sales

First Shiloh Baptist Church, 100 CR 481, Thorndale, is holding weekly “Everything Must Go” rummage sales each Thursday and Friday during September.

The sales are held at 121 S. Main Street in Thorndale in the old Richter Construction Building, according to Diana Casario, publicist.

Proceeds go to the church’s Family Life Center building fund.

Casario said the weekly sales feature “all kinds of merchandise, all at low affordable prices.” Items include books, household goods, furniture, toys, clothing and more.
