Rising Star Baptist VBS set for July 9-13
Rising Star Baptist Church, 1055 Texas Street, has scheduled its annual Vacation Bible School for Monday through Friday, July 9-13, according to Jo Ann Bradford, spokesperson.
Theme for the VBS will be “Game On,” she said. Hours will be from 5 until 7:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served each day.
Murray Street VBS planned July 16-19
Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale has scheduled Vacation Bible School July 16-19, themed “Back to the Bible” after the movie series “Back to the Future.” Hours will be from 6 until 8:45 p.m., with meal at 5:15 p.m.
VBS will have classes for all ages. “Come ride along as we take our ‘DeLorean’ to Bible Times to learn about obedience, teamwork, self-control and forgiveness,” said Jason Hale, youth and music minister.
Thorndale church will welcome new pastor
THORNDALE—Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church near Thorndale welcomes the public to worship at 11 a.m. Sunday as the congregation welcomes a new pastor.
The new pastor is Rev. Mark Porterfield. “All are welcome to join us in welcoming Pastor Porterfield, his wife Jennifer and daughter Mary into the Thorndale community,” said Martha Kovar, spokesperson.

Two-church VBS set July 30-Aug. 2
St. John’s United Methodist Church and Peace Lutheran Church of Rock-dale will again hold a joint Vacation Bible School.
Dates are Monday through Thursday, July 30-Aug. 2, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Location is St. John UMC, Summit at Hillcrest streets.
Theme is “Rolling River Rampage—Experience the Ride of a Lifetime with God.”
All children age 3 through fifth grade are invited to participate. Activities will include Bible stories, games, crafts, recreation, snacks and more.

Meadowbrook support strong for Place of Hope
Meadowbrook Baptist Church annual Baby Bottle support project for Place of Hope raised $943, according to Pastor Steve Ammons. “We thank our congregation for its continued support of this ministry,” he said.
