City, county sales taxes heading down

Rockdale and Milam County’s 2018 sales tax “rally” didn’t last long.

After inching into the black with 2018’s first sales tax check in January, the February figures were back in the red, both for the month and the year.

Milam County’s February total was $83,589. That’s down 18 percent from the $101,945 recorded in February, 2017.

For the year (two checks), county total is $160,203, down 8.7 percent from $175,471 over the same period in 2017.

February checks reflect sales taxes collected in December and reported to the state in January.

The City of Rockdale’s February total was $78,585. That’s down 7.0 percent from the February, 2017 check, $84,502.

For the year, Rockdale is also down, a total of 4.13 percent, from $143,141 to $137,224.

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) was down for the month and year.

The MDD total for February was $37,319. That’s down 5.25 percent from $39,388 in February, 2017.

For the year, the Rockdale MDD is down 3.59 percent, from $69,104 to $66,623.

The City of Cameron received a check for $79,435, down 2.59 percent from the $81,550 reported for February, 2017.

For the year, Cameron receipts are down 1.08 percent, from $147,740 to $146,138.

Milano’s February check of $7,622 was up 14.08 percent from the February, 2017, total of $6,681.

For the year, Milano is up 2.30 percent, from $13,350 to $13,658.

Thorndale’s February check was $15,369. That’s up 9.52 percent from $14,033 in February, 2017.

For the year, Thorndale is up 15.45 percent, from 22,842 to $26,373.

Buckholts registered a 15.66-percent increase for the month. Its February, 2017, check was $2,010, up from the February, 2017, figure of $1,738.

For the year, Buckholts is up 20.74 percent, from $2,848 to $3,439.

Lexington’s February total was $21,274. That’s up 5.78 percent from the $20,554 check received in February, 2017.

Caldwell’s February check was $135,699, up 19.85 percent from $113,216 last February. For the year, Caldwell is up 34.53 percent, from $195,043 to $262,411.

Of the adjacent counties to Milam that collect all were down for the month except Lee County. However, only Lee County was down for the year.
