Matinee Musical Club May meeting
Body

Members of the Crown Garden Club were treated to a tea party for the May meeting. Hostesses for the party were Jimette Fatheree and Nancy Marburger at the Marburger home. The meeting also included a program by Mrs. Fatheree on lady bugs and a short business meeting. Door prize was won by Betty Bartlett.

The tea table was set with vintage plates and cups and saucers and two tiered plates with both sweet and savory offerings. Tea sandwiches and biscuits with jelly were served with decorated petit fours and mini muffins and strawberries dipped in chocolate. Lemon mousse was served in teacups as were hot tea and coffee. Rain was pouring down throughout the entire meeting which made the British tea party even more authentic.

The club will host the Friday coffee at the library this Friday and will volunteer for several jobs during the Sesquicentennial celebration.

After the July celebrations, the group will have a summer break and resume meetings in September. Peggy Cooke, reporter.

The Matinee Musical Club met on May 20 at the First Presbyterian Church with Mona Butala and Victoria Everett as hosts. Members all contributed to the salad supper and desserts.

The program was presented by Gloria Walker and all present participated. The theme of the program was “Mothers.” Each member shared something about their mother and performed a song or poem that expressed their memories of a mother or grandmother or someone that represented that role in their life. There was a great deal of laughter, sentimental moments and a few tears.

Mary Jane Boyd was the last performer of the evening, and she presented an edited version of a Garrison Keillor/Lake Wobegon program about a choir director. Mrs. Billie Franklin, the “Mother of Music” at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockdale was honored in this performance that was done with a great deal of love and humor.

The evening closed with the singing of “The Gift of Song” accompanied by Melissa Shipley.

The Matinee Musical Club is a member of the Texas and National Federation of Music Clubs.
