Matinee Musical Club will sponsor Uke-Stravaganza 2 at the historic Kay Theater, 350 N. Main Street in downtown Rockdale on Sunday, Aug. 26. The event is free.

“Last year’s first Uke-Stravaganza was held at First Presbyterian Church with a turnout of over 100 people, despite the heaviest rainfall of the month,” said Annette Griesbach, publicist.

This year’s performance will include a short lesson for 10 interested players, age 6th grade and up, from 1 p.m. until 1:45,” she said. “Ukuleles will be provided. This intrepid group will open the Uke-Stravaganza 2 performance.”

“Uke-Stravaganza 2 will begin at 3 p.m. and include performances by the following:

The Oompah Ukes— It is said ukuleles are the happiest instrument and polka is the happiest music, and combined the Oompah Ukes are Central Texas’ only ukulele polka band.

The Communities in Concerts Band—This 25-member band (give or take a few) from Rockdale and neighboring towns offers a variety of orchestra music, from patriotic marches to show tunes and pop and jazz.

The Wilmans—This duo puts a twist on old and new classics alike, combining their ukes, voices and passion for music.

A sing-a-long—This will involve the audience participating with the performers in a fun finale.

Matinee Musical Club will provide refreshments following the performance.

Those interested in signing up for the ukulele class should send name, age, and if you need a ukulele to: info@oompah-ukes.org. The first 10 participants who need to borrow a ukulele will be registered.
