Body

He told me to tell you that

One of our grandsons (he’s 10 years old) lives in Dallas and he walks to and from his school everyday. Last week while walking home he got stung on his cornea by a bee.

There happens to be one of those 24-hour medical clinics on his walking route so he walked in and shouted, “I need a doctor.” He’s going to be okay but I laugh when I think about this little towhead with nerdie glasses doing something so grown up. I think we call this, “taking care of business.”

I wonder how many need to start taking care of business from a spiritual perspective? The Apostle Paul uses language in his letter to the Philippian Church like: “press on, straining forward, hold true” to describe what he’s doing concerning his relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Following Jesus doesn’t sound like a church picnic (pun intended).

So what was Paul’s goal? To continue to deepen his relationship with Jesus and share in the suffering of our Lord and Savior. Wow, just wow!

I shared with a group the other day that too many of us are not even in the shallow end of the spiritual pool. I asked the group if they can remember going to the public pool and walking through lukewarm water in a low place in the concrete. Someone said, they didn’t think that was water. Yikes, exactly! Are we even in real water when it comes to our relationship with Christ?!

Jesus talked about stuff like this. He said, “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth (Revelation 3:16).” There’s a lot to this passage and I don’t want to take it out of context but we get the idea that Jesus likes His coffee hot or iced and room temperature doesn’t get Him excited.

Let me ask you a question. Which end of the pool are you swimming in? Have you ever been past the ropes that lead to the deep end of the pool? Do you think that you will no longer be in control if you go past the ropes?

I think that’s the point (we can’t please God without faith—Hebrews 11:6). We are told “nothing” including “depth” will ever “separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).” So go ahead, canonball off the edge into the deep water, it’s where Jesus is and you can trust Him to take care of your business. He told me to tell you that.
