Last week, we went through an audit with the Texas Department of Agriculture.

They were on site conducting an audit of our cafeteria operations and examined all aspects of the school lunch and breakfast programs.

This includes all finances, meal planning and menu analysis, record keeping, cafeteria operations, as well as free and reduced lunch applications.

All districts are now required to have a cafeteria audit every three years. At the end of the day, the auditor declared our kitchen to be the cleanest she has ever seen.

She commended our staff for knowing what they were doing in all aspects of our cafeteria operations. Congratulations to Dana Gage, Christi Manzoni, Charlotte Jones and Stephanie Gage for doing a great job. I appreciate all that they do to serve our children in Milano ISD.

We had several members of our 2017 MHS football team to receive accolades recently. We had five students garner all state honors from the Texas High School Sportswriters Association. To my knowledge, this is the most players we have had garner all state recognition in any one season. Our football team set a school record for wins, eleven in a season and played a playoff game in December, another first for MHS. Ronnie Messer, Donald Grosshans, Trebeaux Broussard, Eddie West and Kyle King all were named to the all state team. To my knowledge, Kyle is the first Milano football player to earn all state honors at three positions in one season.

Kyle was named all state at safety, quarterback and safety. Trebeaux was an all state offensive lineman while Eddie, Ronnie and Donald were all state on defense.

All five of these young men are seniors.
