CAMERON—The annual Milam County Junior Livestock Show will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Youth Exposition Building.
The 2017 show raised over $300,000 for Milam County 4-H and FFA youth.
Here’s the schedule for the 2018 show, according to the Milam County Extension Offi ce:
THURSDAY, MARCH 22
• 7:30 a.m.-Baked goods check-in.
• 8:30 a.m.—Baked goods must be checked in.
• 8:45 a.m.— Baked goods showmanship (peewees and juniors).
• 10 a.m.—Market animals, breeding beef heifers may begin arriving.
• 2 p.m.— Rabbit weigh-in, baked goods showmanship (seniors).
• 4 p.m.—All animals must be in barn.
• 4 p.m.—Poultry check-in.
• 4 p.m.—Conclusion of rabbit weigh-in, pre-judging of rabbits.
• 4 p.m.—Begin weighing (in this order) swine, goats, lambs, and steers.
• Announce results of baked goods and showmanship.
• 5:30 p.m.—Judging of market broilers followed by turkeys.
• 6:30 p.m.—Judging of market rabbits in main arena.
Rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the rabbit show.
FRIDAY, MARCH 23
• 9 a.m.—Judging of market swine.
• 12:30 p.m.—Judging of market goats.
• 3 p.m.—Judging of market lambs.
• 5 p.m.—Judging of breeding beef heifers.
• 6 p.m.—Judging of market steers.
• 7:30 p.m.—Release of all non-sale market animals and breeding beef heifers.
SATURDAY, MARCH 24
• 9 to 9:30 a.m.—All non-sale animals being placed on floor truck must be delivered to superintendents with weigh ticket.
• 12-noon—All non sale animals must be removed.
• 4:30 p.m.— Buyers dinner, Bea’s Kitchen.
• 5 p.m.—Sale participants and showmanship winners should be at barn.
• 6 p.m.— Premium livestock sale.
• 8 p.m.— Buyers after-sale reception, Youth Expo dining room.
• 8 p.m.—All livestock removed.
SUNDAY, MARCH 25
• 1 p.m.— All exhibitors making the sale must return to the barn for clean-up.
ELIGIBILITY—4-H members must be passing in school to participate. An eligibility form is required.
All forms must be turned in one week prior to the show at the Extension Office. Forms are at www.join4h.com, click on “eligibility” on the front page.
Exhibitors must be 4-H members and have attended two club meetings from August-March, according to Milam County Agent Micah Holcombe.
