Remember Saturday, Feb. 22? It turned out to be a big day in our community.
The annual police-firefighter banquet at the KC Hall was the last face-toface gathering in the area until, well, when?
Within a couple of weeks COVID-19 descended and mass gatherings were a thing of the past.
Exceptions have been events where persons are prohibited from leaving their vehicles, such as graduations and the twice-monthly visits by the Central Texas Food Bank to the KC Hall parking lot.
But that’s about it. Scores of the spring and summer’s traditional events simply didn’t materialize due to the virus.
One loss is especially sad. The long-awaited Sumuel Park splash pad was completed late last fall and this would have been its first full season. It remains closed.
The city pool is also closed. Those water facilities had been scheduled to open whenever the area goes two weeks without a COVID-19 case. That’s not working out.
That’s not working out.
