is requested to announce that Dr. George C. Butte, Republican nominee for the office of Governor of Texas, will speak in Rockdale on Saturday afternoon of this week, October 11, at 3:30 p.m. The speaking will probably be held upon the street near the public fountain. Dr. Butte is the first Republican nominee in Texas who has made an active canvas with an honest- to-goodness intent to be elected, and with an admitted show of success. He is the only Republican candidate who has ever been able to throw any semblance of a “scare” in the camps of democracy. Incidentally, Dr. Butte is admittedly the type of gentleman and scholar of which statesmen are made. His speeches all over the state are being listened to by large crowds, and he will no doubt get a big hearing in Rockdale Saturday.
C.W. Matson, proprietor of The Dixie and Gem theaters in Rockdale, last week added to his theater holdings by buying the leading motion picture show in Caldwell. Since that time, he has been spending a considerable portion of his time over there getting his new business started off right. Mr. Matson is a good picture show man and will give the people of Caldwell the best motion picture pictures they have ever had.

Apparently, they enjoyed the pageant and are looking forward to keeping this as an annual event. We did not know if the response would be near last year’s 113 entries.”
