Citizens of Rockdale, not tickled to death of the high cost of wood and coal, clinkers, ashes, smoke and dirt, and the task of fire-building on cold mornings, should see the demonstration this week at the Fairbanks-Morse store, of a wonderful invention for supplying high grade gas from common kerosene. This system is unlike any other on the market, and as perfect baking is done at the demonstration, the most skeptical are being convinced that at last a really practical cooking and heating system, with all its luxury and comfort, as well as saving in cost of fuel, is within the reach of the ordinary country home, for which it is another great advantage toward modernism, sanitation and attractive homelife.

A careful check-up of the Rockdale-Minerva and the new Rockdale oil fields, discloses that exactly 59 new wells and all producers, have been drilled since the first of 1924—notwithstanding the slump in price. The latest producer to be brought in last week, is that of C.O. Bevers, et al, No. 1 Gross, this being two offsets southeast from No. 3 Louis Lewis drilled by Roy Long, Terrell et al.

One of the most unique parties the Sans Souci Club has yet had was tendered by one of its most charming members, Mrs. W.E. White, on Dec. 4. The reception rooms were artistically decorated in Christmas evergreens and springs of lovely red berries. The tables were arranged for the club game of 42; dainty Christmas cards were used as tally cards, and each winner was requested to write the name of her partner on her score card in place of the usual punch. As each “84” was made the hostess passed a basket of packages which caused gales of laughter as the winner opened her package. At the close of a number of games Mrs. White requested everyone to look under her chair. A beautiful gift was concealed under one chair at each table. Each guest received a corsage as a memento of the happy occasion. At the close of the games the hostess served a perfectly appointed salad course, topped off with an ice.

A storied piece of Rockdale history came tumbling to the ground Saturday morning, but a small controversy between the city and a charity organization has surfaced. The 127-yearold Garcia Building is on the ground and Main Street is open again, to the relief of small businesses along that block. But one business which relies on the goodwill of area residents —Rockdale Christian Services (RCS)—is out of its neighboring building and in limbo after being displaced by the demolition. City council members at Monday’s meeting vowed to work with RCS as much as possible to help them during what may be a drawn out process of relocation and rebuilding.

About 45 Rockdale student volunteers—both high school and junior-high—were surrounded by Christmas toys over the weekend as one of the biggest-ever Christmas Roundup projects unfolded at the KC Hall. On delivery day Tuesday, 1,030 persons in 311 families received food and toys in the annual Christmas cheer drive. Scores of volunteer helpers, including the students, sacked, sorted and delivered the holiday goods.
