100 YEARS AGO
At the high school auditorium next Wednesday night at 7:30 o'clock Coach Billy Magee with his High School athletes will stage an athletic show, consisting of wrestling bouts, boxing matches, musical numbers, etc. The principal attraction will be a wrestling bout between Coach Magee and Carroll (Dusty) Robertson.
The ladies of the Christian church are this week sponsoring a demonstration of White Crest Flour at the W.E. White store, with Miss Kent representing the J.C. Lysle Milling Company, in charge. Miss Kent is an expert in her line and is serving free pastries of various kinds and making many friends for her product.
J.B. Holcomb, the 12-yearold son of Roy Holcomb, Tuesday evening was dragged to death by a horse he was leading to water. His father had been plowing in the field and came in a short time before night and the boy wanted to take the team to water as he usually did when he was at home. He drove the span of mules and led the horse, tying the rope around his body. The horse became frightened and ran away, dragging him over the pasture and returning, went through the gate, the boy's body being hung on the gate post. The body was badly mutilated. The funeral was held yesterday and interment at the Bartlett cemetery.
On Feb. 14 the Matinee Musical Club met with Mrs. D.C. Wallace. in keeping with the spirit of the day, Valentine Greetings were responses to the roll call. The hostess read an interesting treatise on 'Why We Keep St. Valentine’s Day.' The music for the afternoon consisted in songs and instrumental numbers from the operas. The meeting was made doubly enjoyable by the rendering of a waltz program which was prepared for Jan. 3 when the club was unable to meet. Following the program the hostess served pie and coffee on plates made the more attractive by their Valentine place cards.

No employees will be laid off from Aluminum Company of America's Rockdale Works despite the curtailment of 34,200 metric tons of aluminum capacity Feb. 17, company officials announced this week. In an agreement described as a 'breakthrough' in assuring employment security for Alcoans, 75 employees scheduled to be laid-off will begin construction and maintenance work assignments instead.

Location, location, location. That—and not whether a skate park is wanted—is what's at stake as the city council ponders giving its blessing, and land, for a new 16,500-squarefoot facility. Over 110 skateboarders, their parents and other concerned citizens crowded into the council chambers at city hall on Monday for a workshop presentation from skate park committee head Lin Perry and former Fair Association President John Hughes.

Texas lets parents “opt out” of having their children get required school vaccinations for reasons of religion and conscience. That’s come under scrutiny in light of a recent measles outbreak, traced to unvaccinated children visiting Disneyland. But in South Milam County, moms and dads have apparently gotten the point of vaccinations. A Reporter survey showed South Milam’s four Independent School Districts (ISDs) have minuscule “opting out” ratios, ranging from 1.4 percent of students down to zero.
