Alderman Branch Lewis has completed the spreading of gravel in the business district as far as the money available will go, but the work is really only well begun, and he is desirous of continuing it. He now plans to finish this work by cooperative methods and asks the donation of trucks for hauling the gravel. His plan is to secure the use of as many trucks as possible on a given date and haul the gravel to town at no expense to the city treasury except for the actual cost of the gravel.

The hand of affliction was laid heavily upon the family of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Allen the past week and as a result two of their children were laid to rest in the Sandy Creek Cemetery, while another was on Monday sent to the Cameron Hospital. Aggravated cases of the “flu” were responsible, the attending physician stating that he had never seen a more virulent type. The first death occurred last Friday morning when Marjory, the little daughter of the family, who would have been four years of age in April, succumbed. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon. On Sunday afternoon, another daughter, Mabel, aged 14, was called, the funeral being held Monday. Monday afternoon on the advice of the family physician, Arthur, aged 9, was carried to the Cameron Hospital, where he is at this writing reported in a somewhat improved condition.

The ladies were asked to draw from the dining table their garden hats of tulips, poppies and jonquils, on which the score cards were tied. Twelve spirited games of 42 were enjoyed, after which a tempting salad course was served on bamboo trays.
