The big Fourth of July celebration which is to be given by the Rockdale Post 358 American Legion, will mark the close of a two years’ successful operation of the Post. Prior to 1922 several attempts were made by ex-soldier boys of Rockdale to organize themselves into a body looking to the perpetuation of those things for which the Legion stands, but very little success was met with until the coming of Dr. C.E. Wisecup. Through his untiring efforts and cooperation, the desire of the boys was realized, and an organization was perfected, with thirty charter members, and today is one of the strongest Posts in this part of the state.

A musical treat is being anticipated by the music lovers of Rockdale on the night of July 4th, when the Thorndale band, composted of twenty pieces, and assisted by six members of the Rockdale band, making twenty- six in all, appear in concert. Under the direction of C.E. Wisecup, former leader of the Shrine band of San Antonio, the band boys have been in special rehearsal for the past few weeks preparing for the coming celebration of the American Legion in Rockdale on July 4th.

In response to an invitation more than 40 guests assembled in the spacious and hospitable Orr home to enjoy the ever-popular game of 42. The rooms were decorated with a profusion of radiance roses and Shasta daisies. The weather being ideal, much merriment prevailed throughout the morning, as the congenial host of friends progressed from table to table. At the close of the games a delicious salad plate with iced tea was served on attractive trays, which were centered with etched vases of Shasta daisies, which were given as table favors.

The American Legion announces that the baseball game advertised to be played in Rockdale on July 4 will be between the teams of Caldwell and Rogers. Both these towns have exceptionally strong teams this year, and a good game is assured. They just naturally grow good ball players in both Caldwell and Rogers, and when these two towns hook up an exciting game is always the result. The game on the Fourth will be called at 4:30 p.m. at Fair Park.

There were all kinds of time warping going on Sunday when the 103-year-old Worley Bridge over the San Gabriel River at County Road 428 was re-dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The bridge is old and new. It was completed in 1913 but has been restored to its pre-World War I glory in a three-year project. The first car to cross the bridge after the formal re-opening was a 1931 Ford Model A owned and driven by Frank Felton.
