The Matinee Musical Club held its September meeting at First Presbyterian Church with Gloria Walker, Victoria Everett and Donnie Rinn as co-hostesses. Twelve members and one associate member were present. Refreshments were served.

The song of the month was “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and was sung by all present with Lisa Loewe accompanying on the piano.

The theme this year is Celebrating Rockdale’s Sesquicentennial. Donnie Rinn lead a program on folk music from the origins of Rockdale almost 150 years ago (1874-1900) and gave a brief history of Rockdale. The club then participated in an old-fashioned sing fest which included Victoria Everett singing “Home on the Range,” Tami Rice singing “Standing in the Need of Prayer,” Pat Owen singing “Clementine,” Mona Butala singing “Oh Dem Golden Slippers,” and Sparky and Leah Thomason played “Shake That Little Foot” with Leah on accordion.

After refreshments, the meeting closed with the singing of the NFMC Benediction Song accompanied by Lisa Loewe.

Matinee Musical Club is a member of the Texas and National Federation of Music Clubs.
