Adults Rachel Owens, the Milam County Girl Scouts Service Unit Director, far left, and Bonney Smith, the leader of Girl Scout Troop 34001, far right, and others set up for Saturday’s registration drive at Veterans Park in Rockdale. The area Girl Scout troops not only work to gain merit badges, they also participate in community service and, of course, sell cookies starting in January. For next year’s sale there will be a new cookie called Toast-Yay!, a French toast inspired cookie dipped in icing. The Milam Girl Scouts are also looking for a new home as they need more space than the current location on Cameron Avenue (US 79) offers.
