If you’d like to be notified with responsible, accurate, information in the event of an emergency?

You can and all you have to do is make a few clicks.

Susan Reinders, Milam County Emergency Management Coordinator, said Milam residents may sign up for the CodeRed program through the Central Texas Council of Governments.

Code Red is a high-speed system which provides regional emergency management agencies the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas, entire communities, select groups or to an entire region.

In order to do that, CodeRed will need your name, phone number, and street address.

“All businesses should also register, even those with unlisted phone numbers,” Reinders said.

She added that people who have changed their phone number within the last year, along with those who have only registered through a city or other progam, need to register with CodeRed.

In addition to phone calls, there’ s also an option to receive emergency text messages.

To register go to the Milam County homepage, www.milamcounty.net.

Scroll down almost to the bottom of the page and fi nd the CodeRed logo with “Red” in block red letters. Click on “Code Red Registration” in blue.

You will next be directed to log in, which you can do either with an existing Facebook, Google or Twitter account or by creating a new account.

From there it’s a matter of selecting what kinds of information you wish to receive, including weather alerts, and how you wish to be contacted, including email, phone and text.

It’s a bit like voting. At the end you will see a page to confi rm the information you have selected.

Once you are in the system you will receive a confi rmation notice containing Caller ID numbers for your phone.
