The Milam County 4-H Awards Program is held each year to celebrate the accomplishments of our Milam County 4-H members who have excelled in their specific field(s) of interest throughout the year.

These young men and women work hard to achieve various levels of accomplishment at the County, District, State, and National Levels. Milam County 4-H Awards program was held on Sunday, September 10. In the next few articles, we will be highlighting these fantastic youth. This news article focuses on this year’s top honors that went to our Bronze Star Award, Silver Star Award, I Dare You Award and Gold Star Award winners.

Bronze Star Award Winner

The Bronze Star Award is for Junior 4-H members, between third through fifth grade, who submit record books, and apply for the Bronze Star Award. Our sponsor this year is The Bling Box Boutique, and we would like to thank them for their support and sponsorship.

Kendall Hertenberger— Cameron 4-H Club. Kendall is the daughter of Eren and Samantha Hertenberger. Kendall was a third-grade student this past year and this was her first year as a 4-H member. Her projects are consumer education, swine, gardening and horticulture.

Silver Star Award Winners

Intermediate 4-H members between sixth through eighth grade who submit record books, can apply for the Silver Star Award. These awards were sponsored by Jeremy and Courtney Renaud, owners of the Bling Box Boutique.

Wylie Butler— Cameron 4-H Club, Wylie Butler is the son of Will and Tashena Butler. Wylie just completed the seventh grade in school this past year and has been a member of 4-H for five years. Wylie’s projects include beef, dog care and training, horse and swine.

Riley Clinard— Thorndale 4-H Club, Riley Clinard is the daughter of Glenn and Shannon Clinard. Riley just completed the eighth grade in school this past year and has been a member of 4-H for nine years. Riley’s projects include swine, livestock judging and beef.

Kaylor Eschberger— Rockdale 4-H Club, Kaylor Eschberger is the son of Kevin and April Eschberger. Kaylor completed the eighth grade in school this past year and has been a member of 4-H for four years. Kaylor’s projects include food and nutrition, ag product id and leadership.

Luke Holcombe— Cameron 4-H Club, Luke Holcombe is the son of Andy and Micah Holcombe. Luke just completed the sixth grade in school this past year and has been a member of 4-H for seven years. Luke’s projects include consumer education, plant and soil science, food and nutrition, ag product id, dog care and training, photography, STEM, natural resources and shooting sports.

I Dare You Award Winners

William H. Danforth’s Book, I Dare You, was published in 1931. It is still considered one of the most influential books in the general area of personal motivation. The award is offered as recognition of excellence in character and well-balanced personal development as well as a demonstration of leadership. This award was sponsored by Phil and Debbie Konarik.

Harleigh Barrett— Thorndale 4-H Club. Harleigh Barrett is the daughter of Anita Barrett. Harleigh completed the ninth grade last year and has been a member of 4-H for 10 years. Her projects include sheep, leadership, food and nutrition, ag product id, citizenship and community service, consumer education, public speaking, fashion and interior design and photography.

Camryn Green— Cameron 4-H Club. Camryn Green is the daughter of Dennis and Misty Green. Camryn completed 11th grade last year and is a senior this year. She has been a member of 4-H for 12 years. Her projects include citizenship and community service, rabbits, consumer and public speaking.

Jack Luckey— Rockdale 4-H Club. Jack Luckey is the son of Paul and Rebecca Luckey. Jack completed the 10th grade last year and has been a 4-H member for nine years. His projects include leadership, consumer education, citizenship and community service, plant and soil science, food and nutrition, ag product id and rabbits.

Macy McDaniel— Rockdale 4-H Club. Macy McDaniel is the daughter of Chuck and Sharon McDaniel. Macy completed 10th grade last year and has been a member of 4-H for eight years. Her projects include consumer education, leadership, health and personal safety, citizenship and community service and public speaking.

Macie Vaculin— Cameron 4-H Club. Macy Vaculin is the daughter of Brandon and Choya Vaculin. Macie completed 11th grade last year and is a graduating senior this year. She has been a member of 4-H for 12 years. Her projects include horse, beef and sheep.

Gold Star Award Winners

The presentation of the Gold Star Awards began in 1933. It is the highest county achievement award a senior 4-Her can receive. The number of Gold Star Awards are based on the senior membership of the total 4-H enrollment. This year the district granted Milam County three Gold Star Awards. As the senior membership grows it is very hard to select only three from Milam County. This year we had eight seniors apply for the Gold Star Award. We are very proud of each of the eight who applied and wish we could have given it to all of you.

Corley Callahan— Cameron 4-H Club. Corley is the daughter of Billy Mac and Cassie Callahan. Corley is a senior in high school this year and has been a member of 4-H for nine years. Corley’s projects include horse, beef, poultry, food and nutrition, gardening and horticulture and agricultural sciences.

Klay Eschberger— Rockdale 4-H Club, Klay is the son of Kevin and April Eschberger. Klay was a 10th grade student this year and has been a member of 4-H for five years. Klay’s projects include food and nutrition, ag product id, leadership, consumer education, health and personal safety, STEM, dog care and training and gardening and horticulture.

Robert Miller II— Gause 4-H Club. Robert is the son of Robert and Elizabeth Miller. Robert is a graduating senior this year at Milano High School. He has been a member of 4-H for 12 years. Roberts’s projects include consumer education, food and nutrition, ag product id, leadership, gardening and horticulture, natural resources, health and personal safety, public speaking and citizenship and community service.
