Due to current restrictions and health concerns, the June meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa Retirees has been canceled.

“The next regularly scheduled meeting will be in September hopefully” according to Doug Williams, spokesman.

Milam County Railroad Museum remains closed

Milam County Railroad Museum remains closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, according to Jamie Larson, MCRM Director.

“Using data we have collected from the number of guests we receive and where they come from for the past two years, and the data found at www.tabexternal.dshs.texas.gov, remaining open does not seem safe,” he said. “Our museum space does not allow for good social distancing practices.”

Coronavirus infections have been steadily rising since May 26 in Milam County, as well as our surrounding counties and in the counties where the majority of guests come from. Historically those are Bell, McLennan, Williamson, Travis, Dallas and surrounding counties, Fort Bend and Harris.

“We would not want to become a breeding ground for coronavirus and increase infection in our county,” Larson said. “In addition, all but one of our volunteers is over 65 years of age.”

“We will continue to share our museum experience and history on our website, www.mcm-otc.org, and Old Town Cameron Facebook page,” he said.

Volunteers continue to work behind closed doors to organize a newly-acquired photograph collection and to prepare for an opening in the future.

“Stay safe and wear a mask,” Larson said.
