Alcoa Retirees to meet at Thorndale VFW hall

Next meeting of the Alcoa Retirees organization will be in Thorndale at the VFW Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, according to Doug Williams, president.

“The closing and subsequent demolition at the smelter facility resulted in loss of use of the Alcoa Lake Training Center facility and corporate involvement with the organization,” Williams explained.

Liberty homecoming, cemetery meeting Sunday

The annual Liberty Homecoming and Cemetery Association meeting will be held Sunday, July 1, according to Judy York, secretary.

The Liberty Church is providing a noon meal for anyone attending the Homecoming and Cemetery Association meeting.

“For those who have loved ones buried there, or if you are originally from that area, we would be delighted to have you join us,” York said. “Just come and enjoy the good food, fellowship and business meeting,” she added.

“This is the time you have the opportunity to help support the upkeep of the cemetery,” she added. “Looking forward to seeing and visiting with you there.”

Sunday washer pitching tourneys benefit ACS

Washer tournaments benefiting the American Cancer Society are held each second and fourth Sunday of the month beginning at 5 p.m. at the Apache Pass Ice House.

Tourneys will be held through September.

Registration starts at 4 p.m. and fee is $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams.

T-SHIRTS—Orders for gray or black T-shirts, also benefiting the ACS, are now being taken. Prices are $15 for short sleeve (district brand) and $20 for long-sleeve (port and company performance brand). Sizes are available from small to 6XL.
