‘Community Summer Splash’ set Friday, sponsored by city, PTO
A “Community Summer Splash,” sponsored by the City of Rockdale and the Rockdale ISD Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) has been scheduled for Friday, July 27 at the city pool.
Water slide, bounce house and concessions will start at 6 p.m. and the pool gates will open at 7 p.m.
Admission is free and concession stand items will also be $1 or less.
Children ages 7 and under must have adult supervision.
Tickets for a chance to win $25 gift cards/certificates will be sold for $1 each. Winners will be awarded at 8 p.m.

Matinee Musical Club volunteers recognized
The Musical Messenger is the official publication of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs. In its latest edition, The National Federation recognized Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale as having placed 8th in the nation in the Music Outreach Division, with 1,123 volunteer hours.
This comes from the collective hours its members devote to their church and community choirs, community band, theater, and as accompanists.
‘UkeStravaganza II’ set Aug. 26 at Kay Theater
Matinee Musical Club will sponsor UkeStravaganza II at the historic Kay Theater in downtown Rockdale on Sunday, Aug. 26.
“Last year’s first UkeStravagana was held at First Presbyterian Church with a turnout of over 100 people, despite the heaviest rainfall of the month,” said Annette Griesbach, publicist.
This year’s performance will include a short lesson for 10 interested players, age 6th grade and up, from about 1 p.m. until 1:45,” she said. “Ukuleles will be provided. This intrepid group will open the UkeStravaganza II performance.”
“UkeStravaganza II will officially begins at 3 p.m. and includes performances by the Oompah Ukes, the Community in Concerts Band, The Wilmans, and a sing-a-long,” Griesbach said.
Matinee Musical Club will provide refreshments following the performance.
“This is a free event at the Kay Theater and everyone is invited. Mark your calendars for Aug. 26 for ukulele lessons at 1 p.m. and the UkeStravganza II performance at 3 p.m.,” Griesbach added.
Those interested in signing up for the ukulele class should send name, age, and if you need a ukulele to: info@oompah-ukes.org. The first 10 participants who need to borrow a ukulele will be registered.
