VFW Auxiliary will distribute school supplies Saturday
The VFW Auxiliary to Post 6525 will be distributing school supplies at the VFW Post, 978 West Hwy 79 in Rockdale, on Saturday, August 4, from 9 a.m. until noon.
The Auxiliary is still accepting donations for this annual school supply drive.

Legion post to meet here 6 p.m. Monday
Calling all veterans.
The regularly scheduled meeting of American Legion Carlyle Post 358 will be held at 6 p.m. on the first Monday, Aug. 6, at the Post Home, 2534 N. FM 487 in Rockdale.

‘UkeStravaganza II’ set Aug. 26 at Kay Theater
Matinee Musical Club will sponsor UkeStravaganza II at the historic Kay Theater in downtown Rockdale on Sunday, Aug. 26.
“Last year’s first UkeStravagana was held at First Presbyterian Church with a turnout of over 100 people, despite the heaviest rainfall of the month,” said Annette Griesbach, publicist.
This year’s performance will include a short lesson for 10 interested players, age 6th grade and up, from about 1 p.m. until 1:45,” she said. “Ukuleles will be provided. This intrepid group will open the UkeStravaganza II performance.”
“UkeStravaganza II will officially begin at 3 p.m. and include performances by the Oompah Ukes, the Communities in Concerts Band, The Wilmans, and a sing-a-long,” Griesbach said.
Matinee Musical Club will provide refreshments following the performance.
“This is a free event at the Kay Theater and everyone is invited. Mark your calendars for Aug. 26 for ukulele lessons at 1 p.m. and the UkeStravganza II performance at 3 p.m.,” Griesbach added.
Those interested in signing up for the ukulele class should send name, age, and if you need a ukulele to: info@oompah-ukes.org. The first 10 participants who need to borrow a ukulele will be registered.
Sunday washer pitching tourneys benefit ACS
Washer tournaments benefiting the American Cancer Society are held each second and fourth Sunday of the month beginning at 5 p.m. at the Apache Pass Ice House.
Tourneys will be held through September. Registration starts at 4 p.m. and fee is $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams.
T-SHIRTS—Orders for gray or black T-shirts benefiting the ACS are being taken. Prices: $15 (short sleeve (district brand) and $20 (long-sleeve port and company performance brand). Sizes are available from small to 6XL.
