Genealogy society to meet on Tuesday
Milam County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa, Rockdale.
The new handicap access entrance to the church is adjacent to the Palmer Street entrance to their parking lot.
Linda Whorton is in charge of the program. Members with surnames beginning with P through Z will be in charge of refreshments. Ice, drinks and paper goods will be provided.

Fish fry fund-raiser Sunday for Ag Boosters
THORNDALE—The Thorndale FFA and 4-H Ag Boosters will hold a fish fry fund-raiser Sunday, Aug. 26 at Fireman’s Hall, with serving to begin at 11 a.m.
Plates, priced at $10, include fish, noodles, coleslaw, pinto beans and tartar sauce. Desserts will be available for a free-will donation.
Alcoa Retirees set September 13 meeting
Next meeting of the Rock-dale Alcoa Retirees will be Thursday, Sept. 13 in the Thorndale VFW Hall, next door to the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall on FM 486 North, according to Doug Williams, spokesman.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. A business meeting will be at 5:45 and the meal at 6 p.m., he said.
Dessert will be provided by members whose last names begin with A through L. “There will not be a silent auction,” Williams added.
Sunday washer pitching tourneys benefit ACS
Washer tournaments benefiting the American Cancer Society are held each second and fourth Sunday of the month beginning at 5 p.m. at the Apache Pass Ice House.
Tourneys will be held through September. Registration starts at 4 p.m. and fee is $20 per team, double elimination. Prizes are awarded to the top three teams.
T-SHIRTS—Orders for gray or black T-shirts benefiting the ACS are being taken. Prices: $15 (short sleeve (district brand) and $20 (long-sleeve port and company performance brand). Sizes are available from small to 6XL.

Bluegrass group set for yearly fund-raiser
MILANO—The annual fund-raiser sponsored by the Milano Senior Citizens will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Milano Civic Center. The Family Sow-ell Pickers will be featured, playing bluegrass and gospel music.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $17.50 for a family package.
Concessions will be available at 6:30 p.m. with a variety of sandwiches and pies for $2 each. Drinks and chips will be $1 each.
