Rev. Gary Veit will be installed at Peace Lutheran Church, 303 Meadow Dr. in Rockdale, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10.
“Pastor Gary,” as he is known, has been serving Peace Lutheran as an interim pastor for the past year—which is why you may and seen him around town.
“I am looking forward to becoming part of the family of Peace Lutheran,” he said. “A pastor is not just a person who shows up on Sundays to lead worship. A pastor shares in the life of a congregation.
“On May 21 I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my ordination to the pastoral ministry,” he noted. “I celebrated with a surprise party thrown by the folks at Peace! Over those 30 years I have served churches in several states, but it seems that I always return to Texas and its good people. Now I am blessed to be with the wonderful folks at Peace Lutheran. We share the same joy in the Lord.”
He said that in the past year the church has celebrated the anniversary of Peace Lutheran, baptisms, marriage, anniversaries, confirmations and more. “This is life,” he said. “I am blessed to answer this call to ministry here in Rock-dale.”
Rev. Viet is married to Rev. Kerri Veit who is pastor at Prince of Peace Lutheran in Taylor. He has two children, Ashleigh and Benjamin. Ashleigh was recently married to Sean Luceir.
Pastor Gary returned to Texas after serving as pastor/administer and organizer of a 5-church parish in Minnesota. He served in Taylor before coming to Peace Lutheran.
