Rockdale ISD has a new scholarship that will be given out to the selected members of the Class of 2021.
Ward Roddam, who graduated with the Rockdale High School Class of 1982, and Kathryne Parsley Roddam, who graduated with the Rockdale High School Class of 1984, have established a scholarship for RHS seniors in honor and memory of their parents whose lives were positively affected in some way by people in the following careers: education, criminal justice, the medical field and professional firefighting.
Seniors pursuing these careers may apply for the scholarship.
The Roddams are awarding two $500 scholarships. The Roddams have been
The Roddams have been active members of the Rockdale community for many years. Ward Roddam served on the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years, retiring as Chief with a special send off last Saturday.
Kathryne Roddam was an educator with Rockdale ISD for 27 years.
The pair said establishing this scholarship is a way to give back to the community where they grew up in and still reside.
With the cost of postsecondary education rising each year, students are relying even more on local scholarships to provide financial resources.
These scholarships will help some future member of the medical, law enforcement, firefighting field or the education ranks get a financial start on their careers.
Thank you to the Roddams for their generosity in supporting our students and giving back to our community. Students can go to the high school's website to view all local scholarships and deadlines: http://www.hs.rockdaleisd.net > Academics > Scholarship Information.
