CAMERON—Chris White, who replaced the late David Greene as Milam County Sheriff, will be unopposed to serve the remainder of Greene’s term on the November general election ballot.
Bill Whitmore, Milam County Republican Party chair, said the GOP Executive Committee recently met and unanimously voted to name White as the Republican candidate for the office.
There is no Democratic candidate.
County Clerk Jodi Morgan told The Reporter the deadline for the Democratic Executive Committee to make a nomination was Tuesday.
Morgan also said the deadline to file as a write-in candidate in the Nov. 6 general election has also passed.
CHIEF DEPUTY—White has been serving as Milam County’s Chief Deputy under Greene.
Greene, who was sheriff for 10 years, sustained a heart attack while vacationing in Oregon June 26.
He died 24 days later in a Portland, OR hospital.
Milam County Commissioners met four days later and unanimously appointed White as sheriff.
He was sworn in July 31.
ELECTION—There will be a countywide contested race on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Republican Steve Young and Democrat Jared Melde are vying to replace County Judge Dave Barkemeyer, a Republican who did not seek re-election.
Other offices to be filled Nov. 6, are those of treasurer, county clerk, district clerk, Precincts 2 and 4 commissioner and all four justices of the peace.
All candidates seeking those positions are unopposed.
