Rockdale Elementary has had an amazing start to the year.
It’s always a great feeling to begin a new school year, and this year we are especially excited. We have missed our stu
We have missed our students and are thankful we were able to offer both on-campus and remote learning for all of our students.
Now more than ever, we know we need to work together to ensure the academic and social/emotional well-being of our students.
We began the year with a lot of uncertainty, but there are some things that are certain and one of those things is the spirit of Rockdale Elementary School and the parents and community that support us.
Keeping that in mind, our theme this year is, “Rise Together.” This will be the cornerstone for us this year. We will “Rise Together” to ensure a safe and successful transition for our students coming back to campus as outlined below:
NEW HOURS—Elementary school hours have changed. Our new hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 pm. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 am. Each child receives free breakfast upon arrival, and they need to be here on time each day.
ARRIVAL, DISMISSAL—Students are greeted at the front sidewalk in their cars. Parents need to have their child’s car seat on the passenger side of the car so they can exit the passenger side of the vehicle.
We want to keep our staff and students from walking in the road or between cars, so we ask for your cooperation with this request.
All learners enter through the front doors. Parents are not allowed to walk students into the building. We have staff waiting to help your children into the building.
If parents pick up children from school, the following locations are the designated areas:
• West Side Entrance (Bowser St.)—Kindergarten pick up location.
• North Side Entrance (Belton St.)—First Grade/Pre-K pick up location.
• East Side/Daycare Entrance (College St.)—Second Grade pick up location.
If it rains, we will follow our Rainy Day Dismissal Procedures which means all students will be dismissed from the East Side/Daycare (College St.) pick up location.
We ask for patience as we add new students back onto our campus with the start of the second six weeks. Dismissal times may take a little longer than usual as we learn our new procedures.
Walkers, including parents who park and get out to pick up their children, are dismissed after all car riders are released. Please be courteous in the car lines, stay off of your phone, and watch for students, staff and other vehicles.
Also, parents need to have a car seat if they are picking children up from school.
APPS—We ask that all parents login to Skyward Family Access, and to download the Skyward App to access important information this year.
This is how teachers will send information to parents rather than using Seesaw this year. The School Messenger app allows us to inform parents about school-related emergencies, school closures, attendance or other school-related issues.
If parents need assistance, please contact our offi ce and we will help get everything set up.
WATER BOTTLES—We ask that you have a reusable water bottle for your child this year to use in our refillable water stations.
They will not be able to use the water fountains due to safety concerns.
NO VISITORS—At this time, no visitors are allowed on campus.
If parents need to pick up children from school, or to deliver something to them, they may pull to the front of the school and contact the front office by phone.
MASKS—Please remember to send your child to school each day with a mask. These should be on before the morning helpers open the doors to the cars in order to keep everyone safe.
We also ask that children have all other items in their backpacks so their hands are free as they enter the school, since we are sanitizing hands upon entry.
The beginning of the year always holds such excitement and promise.
It has been wonderful seeing our kids back engaged in learning, and spending time with their friends and teachers. Your support and willingness to adjust is appreciated. Thank you.
