This time a year ago we had just completed the installation of the new elementary playground.

The new playground, located behind the new elementary addition, allows our elementary students access directly to the playground without having to cross a road. This makes for a much safer environment for our students.

The elementary students really enjoy their new playground and we should get years of service from it. I still enjoy walking out there from time to time and watching them play.

BANQUET—The athletic banquet. The banquet will be held Monday evening and is always looked forward to by our students, parents and staff.

It is great to see a large number of students being recognized for their accomplishments as well as for their leadership skills.

Our girl’s softball team played in the area round of the playoffs Thursday at Franklin. While we lost a hard fought pitchers duel, the atmosphere created by the large crowd was greatly appreciated.

STATE MEET—Saturday, I suspect there will be another large crowd on hand as our boy’s track team travels to Austin to compete at the state track meet at the Mike Myers track and soccer complex on the University of Texas campus. We will be running with the 6A division starting at 5 p.m. Come out and support Kaleb Dodd, Ronnie Messer, Kyle King, Devonte Jones and Parker Jones in their quest to capture the state championship. In addition, Lulu Mitchell will be running for MHS in the girl’s competition.

On May 19th is our annual scholarship fundraiser golf tournament, which is held at the Rockdale Country Club. Tee time is 8 a.m. and the tourney will conclude with sausage wraps and awards.

This is our sixth annual golf tournament and we have given out approximately $50,000 in scholarships the past five years.
