Body

This year’s round of community communication meetings to discuss the county budget were in most respects typical of those that I’ve conducted each of the eight years that I’ve been county judge.

Very few of you showed up.

The only thing that was not typical was that this was my last year to make the rounds.

When I came into office I was determined to communicate with the public and let you know about your county government, about the finances, what your tax dollars were being used for, to keep you posted in every way that I could.

I started the county website, wrote weekly articles for the county newspapers, did radio programs, I do monthly reports and updates at commissioners court meetings, tried to be at public events as much as I could, and I did these annual presentations around the county.

I even started doing a video of the presentation and posted it on the website since so few of you showed up for the community meetings.

Anyway, I hope at least some of you know a little more about your county government and its operations after these last eight years. Unfortunately we haven’t made much progress during my tenure due to the financial shortages that we’ve had to face, but on the other hand, we haven’t gone bankrupt yet either.

As I’ve told some of you that have asked me if I’ve enjoyed my tenure in office: well, maybe I wouldn’t exactly call it enjoyable, but it certainly has been interesting.
