2018 RHS GRADUATION
Iwant to start by saying welcome to all our friends, administrators, and parents. Today is a day that will live in our memories forever. It is the day in which our lives are truly about to begin.
Four years ago, most of us walked into these halls as nervous as we were the first day of school. We were the freshmen, the low men on the totem pole. Now, those same four years later, we are leaving the very school in which we learned a little more about ourselves, made many more memories, and pulled some crazy stunts. This place, Rockdale High School, will forever hold a piece of us.
It has been a long four years and a short four years. Long because of all the boring readings, the early-mornings spent finishing a project you had two weeks to complete, and all the other little downfalls of finally being responsible for yourself. Short because of the lifelong friendships made, the lasting memories, and the truly interesting and amazing things we have learned along the way.
Senior year has fl own by and I could not be more excited or even scared at the same time. I have grown as much a person throughout high school, but it is time to embark on a new journey of a lifetime.
Coming into senior year, I can remember people constantly telling me to take in every single moment because it will all be over before you know it. It feels like yesterday I was being introduced to my teachers and trying to figure out which college, I wanted to attend. Time has escaped me and I don’t have a clue as to where it went. So much has happened with my senior class and we have all made so many memories. I cannot express how much I am going to miss every single one of my classmates. They have truly made high school one heck of a ride.
Senior year is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter. We have all grown as individuals and have a chance to make something of ourselves with our next step. Life will defi -nitely bring its challenges, but with the help of our family, the countless words of wisdom from our teachers, and the never-ending support of our community, we will be able to become all we have planned and hoped to be.
Rockdale was where we found ourselves, but the world is open to receive all that we have to offer. All we have to do is be willing to walk through the right doors. There will be times in which our lives do not align with what we expected, but that is just a part of life.
In the novel, “The Invisible Man”, Ralph Ellison states, “How had I come to this? I had kept unswervingly to the path placed before me, had tried to be exactly what I was expected to be, had done exactly what I was expected to do – yet, instead of winning the expected reward, here I was stumbling along…”
This quote is a reminder that there will be times we fall short of our own expectations, but we just have to get back up and try repeatedly. The reward will forever be waiting for you at the end and only you.
Senior year has finally ended, and it is quite frightening, but also amazing. Life has so many unexpected twists and turns ahead of us, but I pray we are ready for any challenge. I want y’all to remember, you will forever have God by your side, your family members in your corner, and we are ready for all this world has to offer.
I would like to take this time to say thank you to all the parents and guardians for challenging us to be all we can be. Thank you for pushing us and letting us know that you were there to support us to the very end. Furthermore, I want to give thanks to our Lord. With him, all things are possible.
Psalm 25:9-10 says, “He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way. Every path of the Lord is one of mercy and truth for those who cling to his promise and written instructions.” May God bless the class of 2018, and always remember - we made it.
