If the COVID-19-Pandemic year of 2020 is going to negatively impact Rockdale-area’s sales tax receipts, it’s going to have to be in the year’s final third.

Sales tax receipts for Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District are up for the August distribution and the year.

Sales tax rebates sent to entities in August reflect taxes collected in June— for those businesses which report monthly—and reported to Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office in July.

The City of Rockdale’s August check is $90,074. That’s up 17.64 percent from $76,564 in August, 2019.

For the year, Rockdale is up 7.02 percent from $547,802 in 2019 to $586,295.

Milam County is also up for the month and year.

The county’s August check was $110,895. Last August’s total was $109,026, an increase of 1.71 percent.

For the year-to-date, Milam County has received $944,169. That’s up 5.38-percent from $895,931 through August 2019.

It’s an identical story for the Rockdale Municipal Development District.

The MDD’s August check was $44,379, up 23.32 percent from $35,895 in August, 2019.

For the year, the MDD’s total is $296,8872, up 10.82 percent from $267,868 one year ago.

All Milam County towns except Cameron have shown an increase for the year. Falls County was the only entity with decreases for both the month and year.
