Remember to stay safe on Memorial Day

During the 2019 Memorial Day weekend in Texas, there were 360 DUI-alcohol related traffic crashes, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Those crashes killed 16 people and seriously injured another 34.

RISD retirees honored

Three teachers, who are retiring after this school year, were honored May 6 at a Recognition Reception in the Commons of the Rockdale Junior High School.

Abbott set to sign bill limiting abortions

Gov. Greg Abbott has said he will sign a bill that effectively bans abortions after six weeks after the Senate concurred in House modifications to SB 8, known as the Texas “heartbeat” bill. That measure, by Mineola Sen.

Milano High School had their athletic banquet Monday where sophomore Aaliyah McBrewer (L), pictured with coach Chad Lagrone (R), was named the Most Athletic Girl.

Fish fry

Rockdale Senior Center Carolyn Cooper (L) chats with visitors enjoying a fried catfish meal Friday at the center. While the center serves meals Monday through Friday, Fridays are special because the meals are sponsored by an area restaurant or group.

Rockdale Independent School District service awards

In addition to honoring those who have worked for the district over the years, the RISD administration recognized three teachers who are retiring after this school year.

Intern gets master certification

Brenda Bush has completed over 50 hours of training in the Master Gardener Training Program, plus she completed an additional 50 volunteer hours in horticultural related projects to earn her Master Gardener certification.
