Three more COVID deaths bring Milam County's total to 97

I am saddened once again to report more COVID-19 related deaths in Milam County.  This evening, we report 3 more deaths bringing the death toll in Milam County to 97.  Our prayers are with the friends and families of those that have passed.

Milam County is down to only 65 cases of COVID

We have 9 new cases to report, 17 cases to discharge, leaving 65 confirmed active cases in Milam County.  Two individuals were hospitalized and two were discharged.  There were no new deaths.  Today, we tested 6 individuals with 2 positive results.

American Legion starts care packages

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 is starting a new program called Post 358 Cares. It will involve sending care packages to all active-duty service members from Milam County.

Rotary seeks area students for RYLA

Rockdale, Thorndale and Milano High School young men or women interested in developing their leadership skills, and have a great time doing so, are invited to fill out an application for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.

Freezing temperatures

Here are a few scenes around Rockdale from last Thursday when the temperatures never got above freezing, causing all schools in Milam County to be closed, as well as most businesses. Below, the “lake” at Rockdale Junior High was choppy with the wind and was frozen over by Friday morning.

Pantaleon named principal at RJH

Rockdale ISD trustees named Susan Pantaleón as the junior high school’s new principal at the Feb. 4 special meeting of the school board. Mrs. Pantaleón is a 1991 graduate of Rockdale High School.

Early voting times, locations announced

Polling places for the March 1 election in Milam County were announced this week by County Clerk Jodi Morgan. Early voting starts on Feb. 14. • George Hill Patterson Community Center, 609 Mill St., Rockdale. • Bea’s Kitchen, 105 E. Main St., Cameron. • Cameron Housing Authority, 714 W. Sixth St.
