COVID-19 claims 41st life

A Milam County resident has died from COVID-19. "Every time I report another death, I think, surely this is the last one. I thought that last week when I reported the 40th COVID-19 death in the county. But not so.

COVID testing is Friday in Cameron

Thursday the Milam County Health Department along with the volunteers vaccinated 225 individuals in Rockdale: 193 first round and 32 second round shots. So far Milam County has vaccinated almost 1,900 individuals and over 1,000 have received both shots.

Stretch of FM 2095 reopens

The roadway where FM 2095 crosses the railroad track about a half a mile from its intersection with U.S. 77 has reopened to vehicular traffice, according to a note from the Texas Department of Transportation. The railroad crossing was the site of an explosion and fire after a truck-train wreck Feb.

Milam records its 40th COVID-19 death

Another Milam County person due to COVID-19. This brings the death toll to 40 in the county. "Our cases are on the uptick as well, as we now have 37 active cases, up four from just yesterday. The death toll in Texas stands at 43,563 and there were 297 just today.

Abbott lifts mask mandate, reopens business to 100%

On Tuesday Gov. Greg Abbott lifted the mask mandate and opened business up 100% as of March 10. People are still, however, encouraged to wear masks by some leaders and medical experts.

Little River Basin plant sale March 6

The annual Little River Basin Master Gardener Plant Sale is scheduled for March 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Youth Expo Building, 301 S. Houston Ave. in Cameron. A silent auction will be conducted at the sale with winners announced at 12:30 p.m.

Few races contested in May 1 elections in towns, ISDs

Now that the filing is done, there are contested races in the cities of Rockdale, Thorndale, Cameron and Lexington, but the school districts in those cities will not hold May 1 elections since just enough people filed to fill the openings.
