The Rockdale ISD School Board voted Monday night to move second-grade students to the Rockdale Intermediate campus, beginning with the 2021-2022 school year. Superintendent, Dr. Denise Monzingo said “Rockdale Intermediate has the space available to include second grade with minimal disruption.

Around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, a BNSF train carrying mixed freight derailed south of Cameron after it was struck by an 18-wheeler at the CR 229 crossing. A statement from BNSF said that out of 110 cars, 13 derailed. Five of the impacted cars were carrying gasoline and caught fire.

Milam County Judge Steve Young got word Friday that his and his associates grant work has paid off. The county has been given a $3.77 million Economic Development Administration Cares Act Recovery Assistance grant that it applied for months ago.

COVID-19 numbers down from highs of December

The COVID-19 numbers are again down. There are 16 active cases in Milam County, which is the lowest it has been since early summer. There are two Milam County residents hospitalized and one is in serious condition, according to County Judge Steve Young’s daily report.

Micah Holcombe has been involved in 4-H for practically her whole life. She was a 4-H’er for 10 years starting out when she was nine. She became a Texas A&M AgriLife extension agent concentrating on 4-H programs and she even met her husband Andy through 4-H.

Intermediate gifted students compete in robotic challenge

Rockdale Intermediate Gifted and Talented students had the opportunity to learn robotic coding. Students took part in the Amazon robotic challenge, attended a training camp and competed in the CoderZ Jr. League Robotics competition.
